Swire Oilfield Services establishes Indian entity
UK-based Swire Oilfield Services, the world’s leading supplier of specialist DNV rated offshore cargo carrying units (CCU) and modular systems, today announces further expansion in Asia with the establishment of an Indian incorporated entity, headquartered in Mumbai, the first of its kind in the country.

Swire Oilfield Services India Private Limited commenced operations on 20 January 2011 and is the only provider in the area to supply DNV standard CCUs for rental and sale to the oil and gas industry. Globally, Swire Oilfield Services has over 150 standard unit designs, a fleet of over 50,000 CCUs and supports the world’s largest fleet of DNV 2.7-1andEN 12079 rated equipment.
Nithin Menon, director & general manager of Swire Oilfield Services India Private Limited, said: “Positioning is not just about features and specifications, it’s about the core product and service differentiating the company from everyone else in the market. At Swire Oilfield Services, we are proud that our units will act as the catalyst for the paradigm shift to high quality DNV standard CCUs and modular systems in the Indian hydrocarbon sector.”
Initially, the focus of operations is on the east coast of India, with a supply base established in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The base is strategically located in the port city of Kakinada, home to several oil & gas companies and service providers actively exploring and producing in the Krishna Godavari basin, which is considered by many as the epicentre of India’s energy resources. The facility can perform periodic testing, certification and maintenance of the Swire units in accordance with the globally accepted and recognised DNV 2.7-1 standards.

The new company will initially employ four staff in Mumbai, with an expectation that this will increase as business in India gathers pace. The business already has 200 CCUs in market, following an investment of £1.5 million (INR106 million), with contracts in place with many of the major operators and service companies. In addition, Swire Oilfield Services India Private Limited will offer the full range of Swire modular systems, including A60 cabins, workshop units, freezer units and storage units.

Swire Oilfield Services’ entry into the Indian market is in line with the demands of the country’s oil & gas industry, which is increasingly seeking to adopt enhanced and safer working practices. The company will bring its global expertise and quality assurance systems to bear in India at a time when the country’s hydrocarbon and shipping regulators are proposing to introduce stricter guidelines for the safe carriage of cargo offshore.

Rupert Bray, chief operating officer, said: “Swire Oilfield Services is very proud to be the first internationally recognised CCU and modular provider to be established in India, and we are excited about being part of India’s rapid emergence as an energy giant.”

The new office was opened by chief executive officer Tor Helgeland, chief operating officer Rupert Bray and chief finance officer Lyall Dochard and will service the oil and gas industry in South East Asia.

Singapore-based Swire Oilfield Services Pte will be the platform for Swire’s growth in South East Asia, with an expectation that 5% of the global revenues will come from Singapore by 2011. The company has already won multi-million pound contracts with various oil and gas majors across the Asia Pacific region.

The Singapore office, located in the Loyang supply base, will work closely with Swire Oilfield Services’ existing European and Australian offices to target markets including Indonesia, China, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

In line with the planned growth, the company has appointed Fauziah Tranchard as regional business development manager for Asia Pacific. She joins Swire from an oil and gas treatment and processing company in Kuala Lumpur, where she was responsible for business development and marketing activities in South East Asia and Oceania.

Swire Oilfield Services previously serviced South East Asia from its highly successful Australia operations, where the company has expanded from one to five bases and from seven to 47 employees in just two years. It has also secured land in Karratha, Western Australia, to build a main operating and repair base at a cost of £3million.

6/11/2010: Pre-salt attracts investment from(Published by Åsmund)

Swire Oilfield Services, the world’s largest supplier of specialist offshore cargo carrying units to the global energy industry and is a leading specialist in helicopter fuel systems and chemical handling services , has more than 45,000 units around the world, and has landed in Brazil this March with its eye on the pre-salt market. Strategically located in the main oil & gas production markets, Swire Oilfield Services plans on participating in the growing South American market, due to the discovery of the pre-salt layers.
The pre-salt will create new business opportunities in the supply chain segment, such as supplying containers, baskets and offshore tanks for transporting chemical products. This service is paramount to the perfect functioning of the supply chain in the industry. Since Brazil plans on adopting strict norms and procedures for Health, Environment, and Safety (HES ) policy, the strategy of Swire Oilfield Services is precisely to offer units certified by
Norma DNV 2.7-1, globally recognized as offering total integrity in transport equipment and complete safety for their operators.
“Exploration in the pre-salt will require even more effort from the supply chain segment, including the supply of containers, baskets and offshore tanks constructed within much stricter norms, which is an advantage Swire Oilfield Services already possesses. These norms are already used in all oil producing nations, except in Latin America, which has been more flexible, and therefore, the local units have been less robust and demand more maintenance”, explains
Marcelo Nacif, Business Development of Swire Brazil.
The group plans on manufacturing equipment in Brazil in compliance with national rules regarding local content. The goal is to produce 6,000 offshore container units by 2015. Swire Oilfield Services is mostly present in Northern Europe, where it operates eight established bases, four of which are in the UK and Norway, and has partners in Denmark and the Netherlands.
The company also has operations in Australia, Nigeria, Angola, Russia, the US A, and Trinidad and Tobago.
